You have heard the old cliche’, “if you play with fire you are apt to get burned”! I have always had a great respect for fire. If it is handled in the right way it is a marvellous thing First of all you have to know how to start a fire. I learned this at a very young age as we had wood and coal stoves and oil lamps in our home when I was a child. If it hadn’t been for fires we wouldn’t have been able to see after the sun went down or even on dark days and come winter we would have all frozen to death. We used fire in our lamps and to keep warm but most importantly to cook our meals, but we were taught at an early age to never, never play with fire. Oh yes, I have had a few accidents and burned myself with fire and also was the cause of burning our woodshed and Dad’s garage and workshop down flat to the ground! It was as I say an accident. One very hot summer day I was cleaning the ashes from the woodstove as my friend thought she wanted to bake an apple pie. I told my sister to put the ashes on the usual ash pile, but there was a breeze that day and before I knew it the whole thing was on fire! God in his mercy saved our house which had also started to burn. (the house where my sister lives today). I’m so glad we knew how to pray! I was also taught at an early age not to play around with the things of the world. I have been tested and tempted but God has kept me down through the years. I have made many mistakes and have many regrets but God who is my keeper and strength has promised to never leave me. Sometimes you can accidently get burned but God always sees us through these times and will pick us up and set us on our feet once again. Thank you Jesus! He knows the way that I take and when I am tried I shall come forth as pure gold. They tell me at gold must go through the fire in order to be pure. Well friend, I have news for you! You too, must be tested and tried and put through the fire, as it were, but you don’t have to go through alone. Seek God’s divine will for your life and stay away from the things of the world. He alone is our refuge and strength Young people, I admonish you to get on your knees and stay there until you hear from God. He alone can direct your life and keep you true to the end, as he alone knows the beginning and the end! Ecc. 12:1 Older folks, we have come too far to turn back now, Just any day now our Lord is coming. This could be the hour and this could be the day. So Christ once offered to bear the sins of many and to them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. So friend, let’s keep on trucking for the Lord and stop playing with fire and the things of this old world. James 1;27 – Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
