ARE YOU ASLEEP?

I went for blood work this afternoon and came home and have been sleeping for almost two hours! I just seem to play out so easily lately.I can go right to sleep when I go to bed but I am awake anytime after 4 am and get up anytime after 5 am. I guess I was up at 4:45 this am. i like to get up and watch the sun rise it is so pretty,at times, even spectacular. You can tell if there is going to be a storm by the redness of the sky! This morning I said to my hubby “the sky was red earlier” although by this time the sun was shining bright, a couple hours later it was grey and overcast before long it started to rain! Now I don’t mean to say that I am awake all day as I often have cat naps while sitting here in my chair. I often think of the boy in the Bible who fell asleep while Paul was preaching and fell out the window. Paul prayed for the lad and gave him back completely whole to the people (he had died when he fell out the window) It wasn’t Paul that made him well but it was Jesus! The same night that Jesus was betrayed by Judas He was praying in the garden, He had taken three of his disciples with him and while he prayed they slept. He came back and said “ what, could you not watch with me for one hour?” How sad and terrible they must have felt at this time when they looked at Jesus as He said “Sleep on now, the hour has come” and then they watched as He was betrayed by Judas. There are times when I nod off not realizing I am tired! Now I know this must sound crazy to most people but I think it must be all the medication I am taking! It always seems to happen at the worst of times. Jesus told a parable of the 5 wise and 5 foolish virgins who while waiting for the bridegroom to come fell asleep and ran out of oil. I don’t want to be like that as I want my vessel to be filled with the oil of the Holy Ghost so that when the rapture takes place I will be ready and watching! So I don’t want to fall asleep spiritually and fall away from God’s grace. However if we fall asleep in Christ we shall also reign with Him. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 says ‘I would not have you ignorant …concerning them which are asleep that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again ,so them also which sleep in Jesus will Christ bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of god; and the dead in Christ shall rise first, Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Are you asleep? Two shall be together grinding at a mill, two shall be asleep resting calm and still, One shall be taken the other left behind. Will you be ready when Jesus comes?

Oh Lord , please don’t let me fall asleep        spiritually as the hour is too late, very soon you are coming to take us home!

Have you ever wanted something so badly but when you reach out for it , it just seems to vanish from your sight? Perhaps you wanted to become a great person when you grew up but it didn’t happen. You may have desired to become a millionaire but that didn’t happen  although  Some people want to become rich without working for it and spend every cent they have in gambling  machines.  How  disappointed  they must feel.  Now  I know that it is very exciting to win a prize no matter how small it may be, When I was a child I answered a question on a radio program and won a box of chocolates and was I ever excited the day they arrived!   So I know it is very nice to be the recipient of a prize! A box of chocolates may not seem like very much today but as a child it seemed like everything!  What would it be like to win a million dollars?  I don’t even want to know!  I would be so afraid of being hit over the head and robbed of it all, so I guess I am a real coward! Anyhow I do wish the best for those who do win and just hope they spend the money wisely and won’t die a pauper!

Today,  instead of calling it reaching for the prize I guess they say they are reaching for the stars!  Whichever way it is I still want to receive that prize at the end of my journey! Paul said in Philippians 3:13-14 but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before  I press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ!  More than anything else in this old world I want to attain that goal in this life and receive the prize when we get over yonder!  Onward to the prize before us; soon His beauty we’ll behold. Soon the pearly gates will  open. We shall tread the streets of gold!  When we all  get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus we will sing and shout the victory!

I won’t be satisfied until His beauty I behold! I won’t be satisfied until I walk those streets of gold! Those Mansions fair, those pearly gates will all swing open wide. Until I grasp those  nail scarred  hands I won’t be satisfied!

I can remember my Dad carrying me when I was just a child! It was so awesome! I loved for him to carry me, with his arms around me, I felt so safe! Mom and Dad took me to Fredericton one day when I was about 5 yrs, old and bought me a much needed new pair of shoes! Even though these shoes were not broken in I was determined to wear them and before too long I had blisters on both of my heels! The next thing I knew I was up in those big arms being carried down the street! He would take both Ernie and myself in his arms and would carry us to the old rocking chair where he would sit with us and spin story after story. He was a truly wonderful Dad! When my children were little I would carry them while walking the floor if they were ill, or had an earache,or toothache or just plain ill they wanted me or their Dad to walk the floor with them until they eventually fell asleep. They too loved to be carried! I have seen little children in the malls who would put their arm up to a parent and cry carry me only to be shrugged off, I would think to myself “those little legs are probably tired and hurting”! My mind goes back to the story in Kings 4;17-37 about a boy who was the son of an elderly couple. When the boy was old enough he went out in the field with his father all of a sudden he cried out “my head, my head”. His father said to the servant “carry him back to his mother”! His mother held him until he passed away, she then went to find the man of God and wouldn’t leave without him coming along with her. When he got to the house he found the child was already dead,so he preyed him back to life and gave him back to his mother whole! God had done it again! What a wonderful God! There is another incident in the Bible where four men carried a paralyzed man to a house where Jesus was speaking to a crowd of people. In fact, there were so many people there was no room to get to Jesus, so up on the rooftop they went and started taking the top off the house. Can you imagine the excitement when they started to let the man down through the roof right at the feet of the Master! There was even more excitement when Jesus made him whole! One again he proved himself as God to all those people! How happy those four men must have been because they didn’t give up when they found too many people in the room to get through the crowd but they carried him on up to the roof and were desperate enough to find a way to Jesus! Have you ever been carried in the arms of God over those rough places in your life? I have felt that I’ve been carried several times in the arms of God! For instance when my Dad passed away and also when my Mom passed away! I just felt His presence was so real and He really carried me over those really rough times in this Life! I have a painting of footsteps in the sands of time with the Poem Footsteps, that I often think of. It shows a set of footprints but after awhile there is only one foot print and it says “when you see only one footprint, that is when I carried you” Isn’t that beautiful? Isaiah 40:11 when talking about the Lord God says ” He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young!” That is my wonderful God! Wouldn’t you too love to be carried in His gracious arms? If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders. I know my brother that He will carry you. If He carried the weight of the world upon his shoulders I know my sister that He will carry you. He said come unto me all that are weary and I will give you rest. If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders I know that He will carry you!

Do you know what it is like to be so weak that you think you are going to faint? When I was younger I used to feel like that so much for awhile it seemed as if I almost spent as much time on the floor or ground as I did on my feet! I can remember a Doctor telling me whenever I thought I was going to faint to put my head down between my knees! I had to do this it seems a good many times. One time I was visiting my Pastor’s wife at the hospital, before I left my mother told my sister I shouldn’t go to the hospital as I would probably faint I thought “How would she know?” I really wanted to go, so up I went too! While there we saw the “Peanut Man Parade” coming up the street, so we went out on the lawn to watch. As it was going right in front of us I happened to look to one side of me and there stood a man who had been electrocuted on his job and had a bandage around his head but I could see right up under the bandage! Well, can you guess what happened next? I really didn’t get to see the Parade as by the time I came to, I was lying on the ground surrounded by doctors and nurses putting cold face cloths on my face! They then took me over and set me down on a bench but when I looked to the side I almost fainted again as the same man was sitting on the bench beside me. I sure felt weak that day and will never forget it! I had many of these incidents when visiting the hospital. I just didn’t like Doctors or the sight of blood, or the smell of the hospital. Any one of these things would bring on a fainting spell! Then one day, of all things, I had to have an appendix operation and it sure didn’t take me long to get over my fears of the hospital! I had to become strong in a hurry! That is until I was visiting again one evening and when we went in they were having a mock disaster! I must have looked so funny now when I think of it, I had be led in to see the patient and back out again with my eyes closed, The very first case of the mock disaster that I saw was lying on the hallway floor covered in ketchup, I got so weak and once again almost passed out! But the older I got and the more times I was hospitalized caused me to outgrow my fears, unless it is someone else who is hurt! ` Sorry to say I have a granddaughter who is just like I was. One day awhile ago I was going for blood work and my granddaughter had to go too, so her granddad and I took her over with us. She was in the blood room longer than usual and I thought they must be having trouble taking her blood, but when she came out as white as a sheet I thought I could guess what happened and I was right. We then thought she was hungry so we took her to MacDonald’s for a snack whereupon she insisted she was going to order her own lunch. After ordering she turned to me and said “Gram, could you get my order for me ?I’m going to sit down” I watched her go to her seat but when I turned back to the counter I heard a THUMP and turned to see her lying facedown on the floor! She had again fainted! My hubby and I raced back to find the manager trying to revive her. We finally got her back up on her seat when over she went again on the floor! This time we called 911 and when the ambulance arrived she wouldn’t go with them, so we took her to the hospital where her mother worked and she looked after her there! Well, I know this may seem funny to some folk but when it happens to a person it isn’t very funny! However, she recently had a shot at school and didn’t pass out! She is coming out of it, I do believe! Some things make you stronger for things that will come against you later in life! Joel 3:10 when prophesying about the last days said “let the weak say I am strong”! Paul also in 2 Cor.13;8-10 was telling about his Thorne in the flesh and said I sought the Lord thrice that it might depart from me. verse 9 And he said unto me “My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Vs .10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ sake: for when I am weak then am I strong. I know I should never complain about my illness because the scripture says that all things work together for good to them that love the Lord, to those who are the called according to His purpose. There is a reason for all things! I am, weak but thou art strong. Jesus keep me from all wrong. I’ll be satisfied as long, as I walk. Let me walk close to thee! up `

I love to paint! Now I know I’m not very good at painting, I should say I love playing with the paint! I would like to take a few lessons but I have just taken it up myself and most of the time it doesn’t appear to be very successful. However, I’m going to keep it up and perhaps some day I’ll be able to paint a beautiful picture! I love colors! I wish that I had inherited some of my other family’s talent for painting! I have a brother who can sit down and take his paint brush and 2 hours later can have a real nice painting done just from his own imagination. I know this as he has given me two of them, an oil painting and also an acrylic painting. They are both beautiful and you can just imagine yourself being in the cabin looking out at the snow or sitting on the shore of the lake watching the ducks as they take off! I have another brother who likes to paint on his buildings, and I also have a sister who has been painting since a youngster! How I envy people like that! I remember a painting my sister did quite a few years ago, she was just in her teens. There were some men working on the railroad tracks in front of the house and some were standing, leaning on their shovels while others worked. Well she painted a picture of them just to prove it I guess. We all got quite a kick out of it! If you should go past my brothers house, he has a large black bear painted on his work shed! Now this looks just like a real bear! I see on facebook where my friend, Gayle, painted a beautiful picture for her “Pastor’s Appreciation Day” I wish I could paint as well as you can, Gayle! Any how I will just be myself and continue to play with my paint! How many times do we paint a picture in our mind’s eye and just imagine it is just what we want, only to find out later that we had made a bad mistake! I am teachiing a Bible Study and I can’t help but think of Adam and Eve in the beautiful garden of Eden. It must have been such a wonderful place! Instead of listening to that wicked old serpent Eve should have stopped to count her blessings! Just Think how much better off we would be today, if she hadn’t thrown us all into the pit of sin too. It was because of Adam (He being the head was to blame too} and Eve that we all have to live by the sweat of our brow, and us ladies have pain in childbearing! Then look at all the money we waste on our clothing! What in the world were they thinking about that day in the garden? The Bible tells us that with every temptation He will make a way of escape! ! Corinthians 10:16. Adam and Eve. why oh why, didn’t you stop to think , just should have counted your blessings but instead you thought you would be a whole lot smarter than even God,Himself. and you just plunged this whole world into sin! All the while old Satan was sitting there laughing his head off, saying “I not only made a fool of you but now I have the whole world in my hands.” That is until God came along and straightened him out! Thank You Jesus for your Supreme sacrifice you made at Calvary so that today we can be free of that awful curse! Satan can paint a beautiful picture alright, but he is a liar, so don’t believe anything he has to say, he will only try to discourage and put you down until he has you in his clutches and won’t give you up easily! Just turn it over to Jesus, Turn it over to Jesus. Turn it over to Jesus and you will smile the rest of the day! Oh, he always paints a beautiful picture, his colors are so bright and gay. The people seem to look so happy, for he knows how to paint them that way.Yes, he always paints a beautiful picture. It always seems to be ideal. Satan always paints a beautiful picture, but I found out that it’s not real! No, he never paints the tears or sorrows,he never paints a broken home, he never paints the sad tomorrow, nor the many hours spent alone, he never paints the scars of disappoint- ment, the hopes and pleasures of life all gone wrong. Satan never paints a heart thats broken, or a life thats lost its song. He never paints of sins delusion, all the time you think that he’s your friend,he never paints the sad confusion of a mind that been a slave to him. No he never paints the final chapter of a life thats spent in sin. No, he never paints the life hereafter, he can’t afford to show the picture then. Yes, he always paints a beautiful picture, the colors are so bright and gay. The people seem to look so happy, for he knows how to paint them that way. Yes, he always paints a beautiful picture, it always seems to be ideal. Jesus always paints a beautiful picture, but the difference is the picture is real!

If you are in the medical profession you have probably heard this phrase many rimes,Many professionals are on call 24 hours a day seven days a week, Doctors, Police, firemen. Pastors, etc. Many years ago doctors made house calls and while waiting for mothers to have their babies would just have a quick nap on the chesterfield or cot or where ever! I remember my dad telling us a true story about a Doctor who came to Ripples one night to call on an old man who was dying. He apparently just got there when the old man passed away, it being late on a stormy night he didn’t want to drive away back home alone, so he asked if he could spend the night. The lady of the house said she was sorry but there was no extra bed. That’s Okay, said the Doctor I’ll just sleep with Mr, So and So, He never did any harm when He was alive and he won’t hurt me now, whereupon he went upstairs and pushed the dead man over in bed and crawled in beside him and spent the night! Now that is what I say is being On Call! I think we Moms were on call 24 hours a day seven days a week when our children were young,at least it seemed that way. We would just get in bed after an exhausting day and one of the children would start to cry “Mommie, I’m sick” or “my ear is hurting” and away we would go again, to perhaps be up for the rest of the night! When I look back now those were the good days of being on call! At the time all I wanted to do was sleep, but now I’m so happy I was there for them! It isn’t always easy to be on call! I recently read a story about a man who was looking for a job. He went to work for a farmer who didn’t know quite what to think of him as he had told him when he hired him that he could always sleep well when the wind blows and the storms come. Now the old farmer hired him anyhow as he really need an extra hand! The man seemed to do his work fairly well and then one night a bad storm was forecast. The man got ready for bed and the farmer said “I think we are supposed to have a bad storm tonight, You should check on the cattle” to which the man replied “No Sir, I always sleep well when the wind blows and the storms come”, and he went on to bed. In the middle of the night the old farmer awoke to the wind howling and it seemed to be a terrible blizzard! He grabbed his clothes and in a fury he rushed to awaken his hand who simply turned over and said “I told you I can sleep well when the wind blows”. The farmer then rushed to the barn to himself check on the animals. When he got there everything was well taken care of before hand, the animals were all safe! The extra hand had already made sure his work was done before the wind and storm came up! I also know someone who has been on call night and day since the beginning of time! This man never slumbers or sleeps but is always on call! He is there to hear the faintest cry and even knows everything that I think! You may say “you are crazy, don’t know what you are talking about”, but I’m happy to say “I do know this man, I know that He is still alive today and always will be for ever and evermore ” His name is JESUS! he is such a wonderful friend! I have proved Him time and time again, even in the middle of the night I have called on that Name and He has always heard me and answered, sometimes I would need Him myself, often my children were sick or in need, or somebody else needed Him. He was always on call and sometimes He, like the old farmer, would call on me to pray for someone in need. Hebrews 13:5 for HE hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee! Constantly abiding JESUS is mine, Constantly abiding, rapture divine, I will never leave thee lonely. He whispers Oh so kind. I will never leave thee. JESUS is mine!
