When I started School the first thing I was asked was “What is your name?” When I told them my name they wrote it down on a sheet of paper they called the Rollcall! Twice a day they would call out our names and we would have to answer “Present” if we were there. If we were absent we would have to bring an excuse from our parents or guardian giving the reason for our absence. When we went to Sunday School we had roll call there too. I won’t forget the first time I went to vote.I didn’t know quite what to expect. When I stepped inside the hall where voting was taking place, they asked me my name and said go over to that person. She also asked me my name and sent me to someone else who did the same. There may have been one who didn’t know me but the others all should have, especially the ones from my home community! They still do the same thing and say we have to ask , it is just the ritual. Also when we go to the Bank, if we want to do busness of any kind we have to give them our name! Whenever I meet a different person I like to know what their name is, if I’m not told their name then I ask them “what is your name?” Then I introduce myself. I guess this is the basic information that everyone wants to know, any time, any place, whatever we do. We had our Seniors’ Supper last night but they first had everyone that went to the supper sign their name so they would know how many to prepare for, which is only logical, My mind just went to the parable that Jesus told in Matthew 22 about the king who prepared a wedding supper for his son. When the time came for the supper nobody would come so he sent his servants out to bid all that were in the highways to come to the supper. When the King came in to see the guests he saw a man which had not on a wedding garment. He said to him Friend, how did you get in not havaing a wedding garment? The man was speechless. The King said Bind him hand and foot and take him away and cast him into outer darkness…for many are called but few are chosen! Apparently he had supplied garments for everyone, but this man somehow sneaked in without one. There is a way to get into the kingdom of Heaven but there are provisions for us to have our name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life!Again in Luke 10 Jesus told his disciples “I beheld Satan as lightening fall from heaven.Behold I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpians and over all the power of the enemy:and nothing shall by any means hurt you, Not withstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you :but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.Written in heaven on pages that glow, though i`m a pilgrim and a stranger below.Written in heaven as onward I go.For my name has been written in heaven. Is my name written there on the pages bright and fair, tell me Jesus my savior is my name written there?ss

IF!

I wonder how many remember that little poem in the grade 3 Reader titled IF? It went something like this – If I had a hundred dollars to spend or maybe a little more, I’d hurry as fast as my legs would go, straight down to the corner store! I’d buy a little of this and that and maybe some candy too. If I had a hundred dollar to spend or maybe a little more! There are so many “IF’S” in our lives today! Have you ever stopped and taken count of how many times you have said “if” in the run of a day? I think I could safely say that I may say “if” at least 25 times a day! For example I may say ” If you could let me know what you think”, if I could I would do it myself. If you could use it you can have it?” If only I could go too, it just seems as if I say that little word more than any other! There is an old saying that goes something like this “if “ifs” and “ands” were buts and cans this world would be a better place! “if” is used when making excuses and, “and” to cover it up.” When I ask something of someone and they begin to answer with an ‘if’ I think to myself that they are looking for an excuse”. I have asked people to go to church and they have so many ‘ifs’ it seems as if they thought they may be asked that question and have already thought up a bunch of excuses! When it comes to doing something for the Lord and I am able to do it I don’t want to start making excuses for not doing it! Some may even say ” I would have given my heart to the Lord IF it had not been for so and so,” or If it wasn’t for that person being such a hypocrite I would go to that church! Well, all I can say is that we have to be smaller than the hypocrite in order to hide behind them! Whatever it is that keeps one from serving the Lord had better be forgotten and forgiven as the day of the lord is at hand and I can’t let others keep me here when the trumpet sounds. I want to be ready for the rapture of the church of the Living God! If I were you I’d make a change, If I were you I”d make a change. If I were you I’d make a change and be baptized in Jesus Name! For tribulation is just ahead, tribulation is just ahead, Tribulation is just ahead and you will wish that you were dead! If I were you I’d make a change and be baptized in Jesus Name!

KEEP HOLDING ON!

As you probably know I was brought up in the country, therefore when we were children our parents would sometimes take us to the city which was very frightening to me, As a matter of fact I would hang to my parents for dear life, I was always so afraid of getting lost When my children were little they too would hang tightly to my hand so as not to get lost or away from us when we took them to the city, that way we all knew they were quite safe! Even if we went for a walk on our country roads I wanted them to hang on to my hand as I didn’t want them to get run down by a car. They may have tried to pull away at times but that is when I would hang on tighter as I didn’t want any of them to get hurt.Every once in a while when I am in a store and the loud speaker comes on and tells us that there is a lost child in the store and would the parents please go to the front desk! When I hear this I feel like shouting don’t you parents know you can keep them safe if you only hang on their hand? There are several places where you must hang on very tightly! One such place is if you are a passenger on the back of a motorcycle! We have a friend who tried this, He was going for a ride but didn’t know to hang on tightly and when they took off he was left sitting on the ground! It didn’t take him long to learn that he must hang on! In the end he said “I’m some happy I did’t hang on as that guy was a nut!” You just wouldn’t get him on a motorcycle a second time!Have you ever played the game “tug of war”? In this game you must really hang on if not then you end up on the ground in no time flat! You would lose the game I find myself now having to hang on every time I walk or even stand or I could find myself laying on the floor as I have very little balance. My son owned a horse which he was tempting to break in for riding. They started off slowly down the old railroad track bed when the horse decided to throw him and he was not hanging on tight enough so off he went and that was juat about his last ride on horseback, he sold it soon after! I have had quite a few friends in life who I have tried to hang onto. My best friend I had when I was growing up passed away at the early age of 35 years. I still miss Madeline terribly! She moved in next door when she was just six years old and we instantly became friends. We sometimes wonder why these things happen but God knows best! So many we came to rely on have now passed on to their reward, Now at my age when we get down there are times when there is no one to pick us up, or so we think. I’m so glad I have another friend that I can hold onto all of the time, He is the closest friend I have as He is a friend at all times. He is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother! 1Peter 5:7 says Casting all your care upon Him for He careth for you! His Name is Jesus and He just a wonderful friend and Savior!I’ll keep holding on to Jesus , I’ll keep holding on to Jesus! I’ll keep holding to that precious nail scarred hand! When I can’t see the way too clearly and my steps become ao weary I’ll keep holding to that precious nail scarred hand!

I have asked myself this question time and time again. What would I do if I were in that person’s shoes? I had often thought about my brother-in-law who has Parkinson’s Disease and my heart would go out to him, I really feel bad for him. I used to wonder what I do if in a similar situation. Well now I just sometimes wonder what I should do since this dreaded disease has come upon me.I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 4 years ago this month. but have really gone downhill this past year, I feel worse for my husband than I do for myself as I have become such a burden for him. I can’t even walk on my own so I have to depend on him and others to get around. I really miss the fact that we can no longer do things together such as shopping, bowling and mini golf. I guess I just didn’t appreciate these things when I was able to do it. Now I know that my heavenly father doesn’t bring these things upon us but will sometimes allow things to come our way for our own good! You may ask why, what good has come of this? Well, I always wanted to be able to encourage some people along the way and also to tell others about my wonderful Savior! He told me to write so I started blogging my short stories, while I had never written before. I am also enjoying painting which I had never done before. I was reading my Bible this morning in St.Luke 6:27 Jesus was teaching and He told us to love your enemies, do good to them that hate you. Bless them that curse you and pray for them that despitefully use you. Unto him that smitteth thee on the one cheek , give of him the other also, and to him that taketh away thy cloak forbid him not to take thy coat also. Alright, I was thinking I can do most of that until I came to verse 29, I thought would I do that? I don’t think so, if someone should hit me on the face I think that without thinking I’d automatically bop him on the face too! So I guess I have to do a lot of praying! The Bible tells us that as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he! Also as I read on down through verse 37 it tells us to judge not, and ye shall not be judged. Forgive and ye shall be forgiven. I try not to judge others. I usually think this way – I wonder what that person is going through, if I were to walk in that persons shoes I’d probavbly be a lot worse than them! A good question to ask ourselves when we are tempted is – What would Jesus do in this kind of situation? I think most of the time I would know the answer without looking it up! He would do exactly opposite to what I would do! I would be angry but he would be loving and kind. I may say alright I’ll forgive but never forget. Jesus said he would wash our sins away in the sea of His forgetfulness, never to be remembered against us anymore! I like that old chorus we used to sing – He forgives and forgets, He forgives and forgets! Not as mortals forgive one another. My Jesus forgives and forgets!

How often do we hear this question asked? Who can you recommend for this job or that? Some may Want their roof repaired due to all this rain that we are getting, Others may want something else fixed, an appliance may have even quit on them and when somebody calls for Roy I can just imagine what they want! The other day I asked some people if they knew of a doctor they could recommend! It seems to me that we always want the best of everything or we’re aren’t satrisfied and it is so easy to complain! When my mother was ill she had to have 24 hour home care. We just couldn’t seem to find someone who was trustworthy that did this kind of work.So off to prayer we went knowing that there was one who knew all things so we told Him about the problem we were having finding a good homecare worker for Mom. Mom had been with us for awhile but my sister came home to be with her for a week or two. I stayed with Mom one day when my sister went to Minto for some medications When she came home she passed me a number and told me to call it. It just happened, not by accident I don’t think, that she ran into an old friend she hadn’t seen for a very long time. This friend started telling her about a friend that she was concerned about. This friend had no ideaa what she was going to do as she had been doing 24 hr. homecare but her patient had passed away and she had no work! She had surgery and couldn’t work for another couple of weeks. Well, I got right on the phone and she seemed to be the ideal person for Mom! I also confirmed what I thought by talking to this friend that my sister was talking to earlier, When Evelyn answered the phone she agreed to come and try out. Our family got together and fillled in until she could come. Mom and Evelyn got along just great from day one, She was with her for five months until the day she passed on to her reward! I believe God heard our prayer and sent her to us right on time! When He recommends someone He makes no mistakes! He is a great God and I can recommend Him to everyone knowing that when I do I won’t ever make a mistake doing so! He’s my Lord and my God, He’s not just a stranger to me. When I looked past the veil it was easy to see, He’s my Lord and my God! I recommend the Lord to you! I recommend the Lord to you! If your in need of a Savior, I recommend the Lord to you!

According to Webster’s Dictionary a god is something to be worshipped. There are many gods in this old world today. We should be very careful what or whom we worship! I have heard people say”I just worship the ground that person walks on!” I just don’t believe we should ever make a statement like this. We are all human and still prone to mistakes and failures. Another thing that can easily become our god is our money! We should never let that happen to us. The Bible tells us that the love of money is the root of all evil!We should never worship any thing that cannot see, talk, hear or answer the cry of our heart! St.John 4;24 says “God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”I would like to tell you a story in my own words about the old prophet Elijah and Ahab, King of Israel. This story is found in 1 Kings 18:17=29 Elijah had gone to see Ahab and when Ahab saw him he asked “are you the one that troubles Israel?”Elijah told him that he, Ahab, was the one troubling Israel because he had forsaken the commandments of God and was now serving Baal, a god made with hands, Elijah told Ahab to gather together the 450 prophetrs of Baal plus the 400 prophets who ate at Jazabel’s table and bring them to him and they would find out who was the real God! So Ahab the King did as Elijah told him and brought all the prophers to Elijah who alone was a man of God! Elijah told them to give them two bullocks, one for him and to keep one for themselves, then to cut it in pieces and to lay it on wood and put no fire under it and call on the name of your gods and he would call on the name of the lord God:and the God that answereth by fire , let him be God, All the people said “it is well spoken” He told the prophets of Baal to be the first to do this and they did as he said and started calling on Baal to devour their sacrifice, but to no avail. They called upon the name of Baal from morning until noon saying O Baal, hear us but still no answer so they leped on the altar. At noon Elijah started to mock them and said cry aloud:for he is a God, either he is talking or pursuing, or he is in a journey, or he may be asleep and neeeds to wake up! They then cried aloud and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancerts, till the blood gushed out upon them. And it came to pass they prophesied until m the time of the evening sacrifice and there was still no answer. Then Elijah said “Come near to me” He then repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down and took twelve stones according to the twelve tribes of Israel and with these stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord and he made a trench about thr altar. He cut the bollock in pieces and laid him on the wood, and said fill four barrels and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood. And he said do it the second time and the third, and the water ran about the altar and filled the trench. At the time of the offereing of the evening sacrifice Elijah the prophet cane near and said, Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice and the wood and the stones, and the dust and licked up the water that was in the trench, When all the people saw it they fell on their faces and said, The Lord, he is the God, The Lord, he is the God! He is just the same God today as He was in Elijah’s day. He’s a great big wonderful God! He;s a great big wonderful God! He’s a God that watches over us,He’s been so good to all of us. He’s a great big wonderful God! How big is your God?
