A Volunteer!

Have you ever felt to volunteer to do something and procrastinated for just a bit, when you finally decided to do it you found someone else had already gotten ahead of you and it has been done! it makes you feel pretty bad doesn’t it? It was an opportunity missed to do something for somebody else!

I once had a good friend, Annie, who has since moved to another province, who had a heart of gold, always doing good for other people.  You  didn’t have to ask her to do things for you, if she knew you were ill she was there to help. I remember one day I fell down the cellar stairs and broke my ankle. My friend Annie showed up and took me to the ER where I had  a cast put on. She then brought me home after getting me a pair of crutches and stayed with me until my family came home.  That was not the end of it, she continued to come each day thereafter and do my work until I was  back on my feet and able to do it myself. Now that was a real friend! I didn’t ask, she volunteered!  Something like that you don’t forget in a hurry! When she was around it seemed she was always showing up to do something for someone. I want her to know she is really missed!

Although there are many others who have been so good to me down through the years There is another one I want to give thanks to right now.  His name is Jesus Christ who loved me more than any human could! He went to the cross voluntarily and there gave His life for you and me so we can live with Him throughout the countless ages of eternity! Now that is what we can all call a real VOLUNTEER AND THE BEST FRIEND WE CAN EVER HAVE!  Now I know we can never repay Him for all He has done for us, but He would be very happy if we will just accept Him into our heart as Lord and Saviour! Then after having done this we could be a volunteer for Jesus and witness to others who does not know Him! That is the kind of Volunteer I want to be. I don’t know of any better way to be a Volunteer as He is the best thing that could happen to anyone!

A volunteer for Jesus, a soldier true. Others have enlisted, why not you?  Jesus is our Captain, we need never fear! Won’t ypu be enlisted as a volunteer?

One thing I have asked the Lord to keep me from and that is  Alzimers disease. I think that would be such an awful disease. It would be  bad enough to be blind but with Alzimers it is even worse as you forget everyone, even your loved ones and most everything, I wonder would  a person be able to think in the last stages of this disease?

Today mu hubby and I visited the nursing home as we have a good friend in there who will be 100 years old on October 7th.  Her mind is so alert with no sign of this  dreaded disease but there is another lady there who is much younger and my heart really aches for her as she is in the early stages of Alzimers disease. She is a very pretty lady who loves company but keeps asking the same question time and time again,

I remember taking my cousin to visit a friend in Fredericton whose mother had this disease  and  both she and her husband lived with this daughter, She didn’t know who she was or where she was, didn’t know her daughter or even her husband, although they were very good to her.  This lady kept wanting to go home even  though this is where she already was.  She kept trying to leave and when we left she ran out before anyone could stop her, thinking we were going to take her home.  It was a sad situation!

Have you ever gone to a grocery store and forgot that specific item that you went for? I have done this several times, I have also gone to the cupboard or fridge for something and by the time  I  got there had forgotten what I had wanted.. There is  definitely something worse than doing  this or forgetting simple things and that is getting up in the morning and forgetting to pray or just plain leaving  Jesus out of your day! Perhaps the day is almost gone when you realize you  didn’t tell anyone about Jesus today!  Perhaps you have already forgotten what Christ has done for you!

Oh Lord, Please help me to never forget what you have done for m! He has both (saved my soul and redeemed or purchased_ me with His precious  blood!   Thank You Jesus!

I’ll never forget what you done for me,  I’ll never forget how you set me free!  Down through the years you’ve never failed me yet! Oh Lord. I’ll never forget!

Promises , Promises, Promises that never come to pass! How often are we disappointed by those who promise us something and then back off and forget all they promised to do.  How many times have we listened to our MLA or some other high ranking Government Official  as they present their platform and we say “I am going to vote for him or her as they have promised all these things and I believe they will keep their promise, only to be so disappointed once they are in office! It seems they had forgotten everything they had promised as nothing ever did materialize.

How many times have friends promised something and then had some lame excuse for not keeping their promise?  How many times have we promised others something and then we just simply forgot all about it? “You know that old saying “Out of sight, out of mind”. We  are only human and humans do forget as it is called human nature.

Micah 7:5 says  it this way: “ Trust ye not in a man, put ye not confidence in a guide; keep the door of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom,”  Do you wonder why the Bible offers such wisdom of words such as that. It is because the great King of Glory who knows all things to inspire Micah to write those words of wisdom because  He knows exactly what man is like.  Many times we may become discouraged and say “ what is the use , we may just as well give up”.  It may seem we can’t trust anyone anymore.  However, there is one in whom I can trust and so can you!  If we just don;t harden our hearts but look away to our creator and believe just as His Word says. It SHALL come to pass.  Our faith can grow in Him as we read His Word. Faith cometh by  hearing and hearing by the Word of God!  It really blesses my soul when I read Mark  16; 15-18. just to realize there is really one I can put my complete trust in!Before Jesus ascended on high He told His followers in Mark 16:15 …Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is   baptized SHALL be saved, but he that believeth not SHALL be damned.  And these signs SHALL follow them that believe. In My Name SHALL they  cast our devils, they SHALL  speak with new tongues. They SHALL take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing it SHALL not hurt them. They SHALL lay hands on the sick and they SHALL recover. Folks this is God’s Word and it is true! Can we not believe Him enough to just simply take Him at His Word? Just as a little child will believe everything  his Mom and Dad will say, so let us put our faith in our great heavenly father and see great things happen just as He said they SHALL! ( not perhaps, or maybe they will) but(they SHALL) Lets believe on the Lord Jesus Christ with all our heart and these things SHALL come to pass!`James 4 &10  humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He SHALL lift us up! Let’s stand on His promises and Praise his Holy Name!

Caught in a trap!

Ever feel like you are caught in a trap?  It isn’t a very nice feeling. I can remember at least two instances where I felt as though I was caught in a trap through no fault of my own. It was just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time while trying to help someone else while the guilty went scott free. There were two reasons why I didn’t say anything the first being I was too shy to say anything, the second reason being I didn’t want to blame anyone else although I was quite sure who played the tricks so I didn’t say anything although I was standing right next to the guilty one, I guess I just felt bad for that person and it didn’t hurt me too much to take the blame. So I just stood like q dunce and thought if God knows the difference that is all that matters. i have since learned to speak up for myself.

I often think of the poor wild animals who get caught in a trap, especially mice. Like the old poem: i think mice are  nice. Their tails are long, their ears are small, they hqven;t any chins at all. They nibble things they shouldn’t touch and no one seems to like them much but I think mice nice!  But I am  terrified  of mice!  Roy has caught quite a few this past few weeks and I hope he got them all.

However Satan loves to get us caught in his trap! When he deceived Eve  in the garden of Eden and she ate the fruit she also gave to Adam and he went right along with her and threw the whole race into  Satan’s trap of sin.It was impossible to free ourselves out of this awful trap of sin until the second Adam  (Jesus Christ) came along and set  us free from this awful trap of sin through His precious blood that He shed for us at Calvary , the  precious blood of Jesus cleanseth us from all sin,

I’m free from the fear of tomorrow. I’m free from  the quilt of the past.I’ve traded  my shackles for a glorious song. I,m free,Praise the Lord Free at last!

Have you ever taken part in a wedding?  I had been a guest at several weddings but had never taken an active part until my sister-in-law was married and I was asked to serve the bridal table. Well, was I nervous?  You bet I was! Along with being terribly shy I barely got through it. She had a beautiful wedding.

A few years later my older sister was planning a wedding. Yes, you probably guessed it! She asked me to be her maid of honor and I flatly refused. She got very upset  with me but continued to beg and each time I gave her a big “No”.  I was just too shy. After a few times of this she began to make the tears flow and now everyone was upset with me! I finally gave in and said “well, alright I will”. By this time I could have kicked myself all the way around the block and  back home again! I was so shy and I worried about the coming event day and night. My mother made the bridesmaid dresses and they were beautiful but that didn’t make me feel any better at all. Finally the big day arrived and everyone, except me was so excited as they prepared for the wedding.I still didn’t want to have anything to do with it and let her know in no uncertain terms. Wasn’t I being some mean!  However we got prepare and went to the church. It was the first wedding in  the new U.P.Church. It was August 1965 and Bro. Frank McCarty was the Pastor. The bridesmaids walked slowly up the aisle followed by the flower girl and ring bearer.  Now it was my turn to proceed up the aisle, with flowers in my hands and shaking like a leaf I slowly staggered up the aisle.  I didn’t know if I would make it or not, some people thought I was going to faint I was so pale. It was finally over and I said “I will never go through this again” I was secretly engaged to my husband at this time and I  told him I would never  have a big wedding  and he agreed with me wholeheartedly. So almost a year later on May 20,1966 we were married in the church parsonage while youth meeting was taking  place in the church. We had two witnesses Shirley MacBeth Gullison and Donald McCarty.  Bro. Frank McCarty pronounced us man and wife.  Some people were very upset with us at this time but we thought it was just great and sped away excitedly with car horns blaring.

One day soon there is going to be another large and beautiful wedding.  I aim to be a part in this wedding ceremony as it will be the wedding of the Church of the living God with the Groom who will Be Jesus Christ our Great God and Savior!  What a day that will be and what a Feast. It will be called the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Revelations 19:7-9 says: Let us be glad and rejoice and give honor to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife has made herself ready.(8) And unto her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white, for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. (9) And He saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.  And He said unto me. These are the true sayings  of God.  Oh how I want to have a part in this great celebration when the saints of God go marching home!

When the saints go marching in, when the saints go marching in.  Oh Lord I want to be in that number. When the saints  go marching in!

Many times when asked if we are available to do something for somebody we may have to say “sorry, but not this time”.  You may have a doctor’s appointment or  something else that may have to  be done right then.    I often feel terrible when I have to say “no” but it is the only answer I can give. I’d love to be able to help others if at all possible, although I may not be able to do very much, it always gives me a good feeling to be able to help with something. I like to say “sure I’m available, how can I help you?”

Sometimes you may feel I just cant help that person, they are too cantankerous. that is the very one who needs all the help you can give them. It isn’t a nice feeling when you know a person needs help and yet they just refuse to let you help them. And maybe only to give advice and they won’t listen but go on their own contrary way. They are the person who gets hurt the most.

I think of the young ruler in Luke 18; 8-22. This man asked Jesus what he could do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him to sell all he had and to distribute to the poor. It says the man went away sorrowful for he was very rich. He refused eternal life because of his love for money. Mark 8;41 “If we give a cup of cold water in His name we shall not loose our reward.” Everyone has been so good to me of late I haven’t been real well and people have brought cooking and stayed with me while hubby was out. They have prayed for me and with me and have just been there as available for me even though had they had busy lives of their own. I really do appreciate this and know they will be greatly rewarded. But have I been, and am I, available to others. I want to do my part for the work of God’s Kingdom. In order to do so I have to avail myself to him. Jesus is always available for us to call upon night or day, He never sleeps or slumbers but His eye always roves too and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward Him. Are you available?

All along on the road to the soul’s true abode there’s an eye watching you, every step that you take this great eye is awake, there is an eye watching you. Watching you. Watching you, everyday mind the course you peruse. Watching you. Watching you, there’s an all seeing eye watching you!

I’m glad I know who Jesus is. I’m glad I know who Jesus is. He’s more than just a story. He is the king of glory! I’m glad I know who Jesus is!
