Archive for June, 2010

Oh what a gorgeous day this June 20th, 2010 for picking berries here at Tommy Gilberts Strawberry patch beside the Saint John river.  I only wish I could be out in the field with Kelsy and Grampy.  I feel so useless today with my broken right shoulder and sore left ankle and foot.  I know I really can’t complain because there are so many people with far more incapabilities than I have so I really feel blessed!  I am able to sit here in the car watching as others come and go with their pans and boxes full too overflowing with beautiful, huge, red strawberries.  They look delicious and Lord willing I am going to have strawberry shortcake for supper!  Kelsy and Grampy are already back to the car with 28 boxes of berries in 1/2 hour at 3 boxes for $4.50 – now that is a real steal!  The imported ones are $4.50 per box in stores.  These are much better with their soft cores and large and sweet.  Kelsy and Grampy Roy are now in Marilyn’s Clothing store.  Roy came back with a suit ($10.00) really nice and work pants.  Kelsy got a top and a bathing suit (2.28).  It is so nice to have Kelsy with us today.

How often do we stop and count our blessings and thank God for small blessings too?  It seems as if I am always complaining but I feel I should be thanking God for His blessings instead.  The more we thank Him for small blessings, the more our faith in Him will grow, until we won’t be able to count all our blessings – which I really can’t do even now, for they are so numerous.  Thank you Jesus!

God is so good to give us so many blessings.  Undeserving, that’s what we are.  We ought to serve Him, love and praise Him a little more today and a whole lot more tomorrow.

Are You Washed?

When I think of being washed or bathed I think of when I was just a small child and our Saturday night baths.  Water would be carried from the well to fill a large tub.  After the water was nice and warm we children would take our turn having a bath so we would be nice and clean for Sunday morning.  This was usually only done once a week as it was such a chore getting and heating the water.  We were only a poor family of six and didn’t have all the necessities of life, but God was good and always supplied our every need.

It always feels so good to get in the water after a hard day of work.  You may be covered in grime and dirt but oh just to lay and relax in the water always makes one feel so good.  It not only takes water but lots of good smelly soap, lotions, powder, etc. to make us smell and feel so good.  We may be so depressed from carrying our troubles and woes and maybe thinking I’m going to have a nice hot bath and just relax and hope our cares will solve themselves only to be terribly disappointed because when we leave that nice warm water our troubles are still with us.

There are times when we feel so burdened down and it seems there is nothing we can do, and no one else cares or will help us.  Just don’t give up hope because I do know somebody who has a cure for you.  If you will just call upon Jesus he is always willing to help and to listen to your cry.  Just tell Him you are  sorry for your sin (Ps:51:5 – Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.) and ask Him to forgive you.  Invite Him into your heart.  He will come into your heart and forgive every sin, oh how the load will be lifted!  He then tells us to be baptized in that lovely name of Jesus for the remission of your sins.  He has already forgiven you when you asked but they need to be remitted or washed away by being baptized in His Name, the precious name of Jesus.  Then He will fill you with His Spirit according to Acts 2:38 with the evidence of speaking in that heavenly language and make you rapture ready.  You will feel just wonderful.  Just keep on living a holy life and live for God.  Praise His Holy name!  Once you are washed and cleaned up, stay close to Him!  Don’t ever stray.  He will never us but we must not walk away from Him and be lost.

Are you washed in the blood?  In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?  Are your garments spotless?  Are they white as snow?  Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Years ago out mode of transportation was the horse and carriage and oh what a difference when they invented the horseless carriage. The horseless carriage was run by steam.  They had to carry wood with them or stop and cut wood along the way to keep the steam up to turn the wheels.  Oh what a difference again when they invented the gas engine.  Even with the gas engine they had to crank it to start it. Oh what a difference when the modern car came along with electric lights and electric starter that they didn’t have to crank to start.  Over the years they have really improved this car from the old stick shift to automatic gear shifts and power brakes and today we can get them loaded with all the other stuff they have. What a difference it has made in peoples lives!I am so glad we live in the dispensation of Grace and not back under the Law!  I read of the exodus of the children of Israel out of Egypt.  Except for the mercy of a loving God most of them would have died in the wilderness.

If today we were still under the law, just think of those who would be stoned to death.  Would there be enough stones to go around?  It didn’t take much for them to be stoned to death. On one occasion a man picked up a few sticks of wood on the Sabbath day and they stoned him to death!  The law was so strict there were a lot of things they were stoned to death for. If this was the case today I am afraid I wouldn’t be around very long as it seems I am always doing something I ought not to do!  God in His great mercy came to earth as a babe in a manger and gave His life on Calvary for mankind and Oh what a difference!  They didn’t realize they were crucifying the King of Glory!  They scorned Him and put Him to shame.  I sometimes wonder if Pilate knew He was King of the Jews when he made the sign and hung it over Jesus saying :”Jesus, King of the Jews”  The people cried out saying  “No, put He said He is King of the Jews”  Pilate said “What I have written, I have written”  but Oh what a difference He has made in this old sinful world.  He has made it possible through his death on Calvary for all to be saved if they will only come to Him.  Oh what a difference He makes in our lives.  He is coming again very soon for His people.  Signs of the time are everywhere!

It will be different the next time You come, just wait and see.  You’ve got a lot of lonely children and one of them is me.  You know we want to see you, we’re never really at home. So if you’re waiting to be invited Lord Jesus PLEASE COME!

Did you ever receive something you did not expect? Isn’t it nice to know someone is thinking of you and wants to do something nice for you!  It isn’t often that happens to me but I get so excited when it does. I believe it was in Nov.08 I wrote a short story on the difference between Hope and Desire. In doing so I tried to explain by saying I desired a laptop computer but I wasn’t hoping to find one under the tree on Christmas morning because i knew we couldn’t afford it, right then, as both my husband and I were having medical problems and I didn’t feel we could get something that expensive, especially since we  already had an old desktop computer I was writing on. Well, on Christmas morning  I received the surprise of my life. I didn’t receive one laptop but two! My family had gotten me one and my cousin also gave me one. Both of these when I didn’t expect any!  I use both – I have a friend who has started typing my stories for me too so when she has one I have the other – talk about coming in handy!  Matt 6:8 tells me the lord knows what we need before we ask Him. Isn’t He a great God! I have another cousin who had been praying I could get a laptop!  My faith wasn’t very great as I really didn’t expect it!

God wants us to expect great things from Him. He said if our earthly father knew how to give good gifts how much more our heavenly would give to them that ask Him!  Matt. 7:7 says ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.  He wants us to ask  and to expect to receive and HE WILL GIVE US THE DESIRE OF OUR HEART!

My friend was telling me the other day how that she received the Holy Spirit the other night she went to church expecting to receive something from the Lord and He filled her with His Spirit!  How wonderful and exciting!  We must have Faith in God and expect Him to do just what He said He would do and that is called FAITH!

In order for us to have the revival we are hoping for we need to have great expectations!  In order for us to have miracles we really need to expect God to give them to us just as He did when He was on earth.  Oh how I want to see God move. I believe most of us need miracles of one kind or another.  Whether it is a soul that needs salvation or a miracle of healing or financial, whatever it is, remember, God is just the same, Yesterday, today and forever. He never changes!  Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Amen and Amen!

Just keep on praying (and expecting) ‘til light breaks through. The Lord will answer. He’ll answer you. He keeps His promise. His Word is true! Just keep on praying ‘til light breaks through!

Spring has come and gone and it is now Summertime once again.  We had a wonderful winter (not too much snow) and a great Spring and we are now enjoying more beautiful summer weather!  Isn’t God good to us?  We are surely blessed!  We are so fortunate to live in this beautiful free country!  I also love the different seasons.  Summer brings us flowers, roses, etc., whose perfume fills the air.  Soon the strawberries will be ripe along with blueberries, gooseberries, etc.  Those strawberries short cakes make my mouth water just thinking about them.  I also love blueberry pot pie and blackberry jam, also with gooseberry jam and strawberry pie.  Oh, so much in the summer to eat.  The gardens are growing.  We have already had asparagus, swiss chard and parsley.  Then apples will be ripening for all kinds of recipes; such as, pies, dumplings, sauce, puddings, etc.

There seems to be so much to do during the summer.  It seems to bring people together more.  We can always go for a hike, or fishing, or have a picnic in our favourite spot beside the brook.  Just go for a walk or visit a friend.  We can also go swimming and boating or play in the water.  There is just so much one can do in the Summertime.  Let’s not get so busy we forget about Church  and God.  It always seems that church attendance goes down.  We should take time for devotions, reading His Word and Prayer.  We should still be watching for His return everyday.  He is coming as a ‘thief in the night.’  Let’s be on good terms with Him when He returns.

Just any day now Our Saviour coming

He’ll be returning for you and me

I’ll be watching and I will be waiting

Just any day now His face I’ll see

.Let’s serve Him now and not wait for the fall of our lifes’s seasons to prepare to meet Him . It could be to late.  He just may come in the summer season.  Let’s not be one of those who puts a sign on their door saying:- Goodbye God,  I’ve gone on vacation!”

. Are You Connected?

In order to have electricity in our houses we need to be connected to  some sort of power source. It was in 1952 that we had electricity installed in  our home. Oh what a change it made going from oil lamps and  gasoline lanterns to electricity and flipping a switch.  Everything seemed to suddenly come alive and so bright! We were all so excited! Then my brother Leonard bought Mom an Electrolux  Vacuum cleaner.this made  it much easier for mom  since we  all wanted  to try it out. Then the most important things came over a period of time. First came the wringer washing machine and Coldspot refrigerator She had plenty of electrical appliances before   she passed away.  Dad also had plenty of electrical tools including a lathe.

If the power is  off  for a few days we all get a bit panicky   because so  much is lost in our fridges. Those who depend on electricity to heat their houses will be cold unless they use a substitute source of heat such as a generator or wood they can rely on.

If we are informed before hand of an expected power outage we can try to compensate for it by purchasing a generator or cooking our berries into jams and jellies.but most of we do all love and appreciate the power that comes into our homes. We are grateful for the power and the Companies that bring this to us. We also need some sort of power for our telephones and Pc’s. What, oh what would we do without our internet?  I love light  and lots of it   as I have said before I just don’t like darkness.  There is another darkness light that I don’t like. It is he darkness of sin and evil in this old world. I am so glad that Jesus came to bring us the light of His glorious gospel.  John 8;12 Jesus said I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life 1 J0hn 1 :7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light , we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Jesus is the Lighthouse and from the rocks of sin He hath shone His light around me that   I might clearly see , If it wasn’t for the Lighthouse, tell me, where would this ship be? it is vacation time once again! Time passes by so swiftly. It seems no time since our children were young and every summer when school was over we would pack our bags and get ready for the big day when we would leave for perhaps a week or even 3 days for  vacation. if was a real treat to get away for a few days just to relax and rest.  Every one would be so excited!

Cindy would always make sure we took everything we would need while we were away, and Roy could never understand why we needed all that stuff or extra baggage!  He would compiain about how we packed everything but the kitchen sink . She would start her packing list about a week early and kept adding to it until we were ready to go and after all this we would usually forget the most important thing. Sometimes when he had the car all packed there was hardly enough room for the children to fit in the car seat with all this extra baggage! I have learned after all these years to pack as lightly as I can and just enjoy the trip!

Sometimes we carry a lot of extra baggage in our hearts and minds that we should get rid of. We  often have so much junk on our mlnd that we can’t seem to pay attention to the Pastor or speaker and we may miss a lot of what we really needed to hear . Then again it may be that our hearts are not in tune with the Lord.we may be carrying  a grudge or other feelings that are caused from gossip or rumors about a brother or sister and we can’t seem to get through to God. The Bible says when this happens we should lay our gift on the altar and go make it right with our brother or sister and oh what a change there will be as we let God  control and have His way in our lives!  You may ask me “how do you know”? It is because I have had to do this too. When His blood washes us we feel so good and clean again!

Bring all your needs to the altar,Bring all your needs to the Lord. He is so willing and able to help you, Bring all your needs to the Lord!
