Have you ever tried to walk in another’s’ footsteps? Most of the time it is a very hard thing to do! I remember, when as a child, trying to follow Dad to church Walking in his footstep for over a mile was hard work, especially after a snow storm. He would always try to make the path easier by leading us saying “stay in my tracks”. If we got out of his tracks we usually got in trouble as we couldn’t make it on our own! He did break the way through storm after storm! It was still almost impossible for me to step in each of his footprints. Although Dad was of small stature and short legs he seemed to be like a giant to me just then. He was our Dad and we wanted to follow him to church, Once in a while he would retrace his steps, stop and wait until we caught up, He was a wonderful father and loved us so much, I have even heard him brag about the great family God had given him!
We have all seen toddlers trying to follow in his daddy’s footsteps. it looks so cute! He stretches those little legs and tries so hard to be just like his daddy. When he finally succeeds what a big grin spreads across his little face as his father gathers him in his arms. He looks he just won the Olympics! What a great privilege we have to walk with our LORD! Its a great day to be alive as we can walk with him, let him show us the way. If we let him guide us he will lead us through every storm that may come our way. He will lead us into all truth. He will surely do just that if we let him into our hearts and take control of our mind. So many times we think we don’t need the lord and decide to take our own mind to do things. That is always a big mistake. He knows the end from the beginning and knows what the future holds for each one of us. I don’t want to do as Peter and some of his disciples did. Of course they were following from afar. If we get closer and closer to Jesus we may stumble and fall but he will be right there to lift us up. Anyhow, I believe Peter must have followed quite close behind him with John (the disciple whom Jesus loved) But when Jesus needed Peters support he said he didn’t even know him! What a big, fat, lie, after Jesus had been his very best friend. The other disciples all forsook him. how alone and lonely he must have felt that day. They all rejected him. How my heart aches for him as he carried his cross up cavalry hill all alone. There was no person there who would volunteer to help him. Although it was for them. he was leading the way to Calvary. They didn’t want to be seen carrying the cross of one who was condemned to death by crucifixion. They were so ashamed of him. Do you know how it feels to be rejected by ones you loved and helped, and they turn right around as if they didn’t know you? It must be something terrible- enough to break your heart, to be rejected by your very best friends. Jesus had to carry his own cross, nobody wanted to be seen with him that day and none volunteered to help. When Simon came along and was elected to carry the cross he was probably so embarrassed and didn’t appreciate the fact he was carrying the cross of one condemned to death by crucifixion- one he didn’t even know. Yet he should have been honored to do this for the great God of heaven and earth- but he didn’t know that. So many today still don’t know who Jesus is. He is still being rejected as he knocks at the door of peoples hearts, he wants to come in and abide with them. They just smirk and turn away not realizing He is the Great King of Glory,King of all kings, our Lord, our Redeemer, our Savior. Will it be different for you the next time he comes for his church or will you be found wanting? Left behind for ever and ever without hope for eternity?. Once the rapture take place its going to be too late for those who have rejected him. If we are ashamed of him now he said he would be ashamed of us at his coming. We must repent and be baptized in Jesus name and receive the gift of the holy ghost to be prepared and live a holy life in order to be ready for his return. If only I could get you to understand how necessary and how important it is for you to be ready to meet your maker. He is so wonderful and loved us enough to take the rejection he knew he was going to feel and make his way to Calvary so we can have eternal life only to be rejected again on this earth by so many that use his name only as a curse word! It’ll be different the next time he comes, you got a lot of lonely children and one of them is me, you know we want to see you were never really at home, so if your waiting to be invited lord Jesus please come.
